gift guide

this ones for the dads

May 21, 2017

– a state bags backpack (love these bags and love the mission of the company)
– a new york diner map
– a fix it kit
– these are probably too chic for a traditional fireplace, but i love these matchsticks nonetheless
– rag & bone black italian leather sneakers, because a suit looks way cooler paired with these
– a one blade razor starter kit – apparently years of research and innovation went into creating this sleek razor – also, the packagaing is really well done so it makes a beautiful gift
– an old classic, vuarnet x rag & bone distric sunglasses
– the perfect travel on luggage if you don’t want to pay rimowa prices, check out away luggage
– the blunt metro umbrella – its about time that someone took the time to apply some innovation to an umbrella, one that doesn’t reverse itself with an intense wind!
– the new york pizza project book – a photography book about classic new york pizza spots… kind of a no-brainer

beauty, fashion

for the mamas

April 30, 2017

this may be a record for the number of posts i have done in one week since rowan was born! rowan has been crawling all over me while i have been typing–he was supposed to be napping–so i apologise for the grammatical errors in advance.

i thought i would put together some gift ideas for anyone looking for ideas for mother’s day gifts.

fragrance sampler
collection sampler box of all eight rag & bone fragrances. mix and match–all the scents are amazing, but neroli and bergamot are my favorite!

striped top
zara is so good with hitting trends, but also maintaining an easy-effortless feel at a great price. i just got this top the other day and i love it.

beachwaver curling iron
a friend of mine tipped me off about this dreamy curling iron. it literally does all the work for you. you clip the end of your hair to it, hit a button and off it goes. get ready for the victoria’s secret model hair.

meant – do it all wash
i actually haven’t tried these products yet, but a friend of mine started the line and i imagine they are amazing because she is pretty much a rock star. she is a hard working, multi-tasking, mama of two badass and i can’t wait to try all her products. i am sure they are as great as she is.

hexagon hoops
bing bang is one of my favourite inexpensive jewelry lines. i love their playful nature. their products make really great gifts.

“women on a mission” tote
love the message and love the cause. each bag purchased gives 10 meals to children around the world.

black ginsberg sweater
this sweater is a chic nod to the beatnik generation. ginsberg was an american poet of jewish origin, and one of the leading figures of both the beat generation of the 1950s and the counterculture that soon would follow.

big little lies
my mom gave me this book and i haven’t started reading it yet, but she claims you cannot put it down. i’m trying to wait to watch the hbo series once i complete the book!

marilyn baseball cap
the truth is, every woman should have a go-to baseball cap. for bad hair days, rainy days or for just an easy weekend accessory. i wear my caps all the time!

chess set
the other day, nate and i were talking about how fun it would be if we learned how to play chess together. maybe if we got a cool new chess set that would inspire us! we need a distraction from binge watching the americans!

baies diptyque candle
of all the candles in the world, this is still my ABSOLUTE favourite.

adria espadrille
i actually just got these as a little gift for my mom. easy and effortless.

happy mother’s day shopping!

a holiday gift guide for the kids

November 17, 2014

Rachel Blumenthal Gift Guide_Ladyandprince
holiday gift giving season is here and just like last year, i am asking some of my favorite taste makers to collaborate with me for gift guides! i am super excited to launch the series with one of my dear friends–and seriously awesome career woman, wife, mom… the list is endless. she runs the uber-chic site cricket’s circle… a go to for every mama out there! check out her top holiday picks!

name: rachel blumenthal
what you do: founder of cricket’s circle, the shoppable short answer for what to buy for baby and toddler
best gift you ever received: my husband bought me a tiny gold ribbon ring a year into dating and though it didn’t represent a “promise” per se, it’s something incredibly special to me.

top gift ideas for kids (2-12)

1 – the princess obsessed
chances are she’s at least starting to tire of the elsa costume. introduce her to a classic with a handmade Little red riding hood costume (and book!).

2 – the sports lover
tennis lessons at the newly opened court 16 in brooklyn are a must. the instructors are world-class athletes, the courts are scaled down in size for your kids and each membership comes with the cutest backpack and t’s in partnership with lacoste. yes, please.

3 – the avid reader
few things are more charming than penguin’s special threads editions of classics like black beauty, the secret garden, and emma. (photo here). If budget is of no option, there’s nothing more stunning (and happy!) than juniper books’ children’s sets.

4 – the creative cat
satisfy curiosity and craftiness with a craft project from kiwicrate, a box full of everything you need to complete the task at hand.

5 – the cars/trucks Fanatic
this race car sleeping bag is everything.

6 – the toddler who has everything
blabla’s giant life-size dolls are great for playing or napping on. And they’re so stunning, you’ll want to keep them for your kids’ kids.

7 – the tech-Savvy
budding engineers will be fascinated with goldiblox which encourages and develops an early interest in building and engineering.

8 – the too-cool tween
to her, nothing says cool like rainbow fingernails. to you, you’d prefer she didn’t inhale the toxic fumes. ella + mila’s 10-pack of safe, vegan nail polishes are a win-win.

9 – the music lover
b. symphony in b. orchestra is one of the only toys that plays music you’ll actually love. This one thrills parents as much as littles. If your child is more creative, their very own mini piano and guitar is the only way to go. We love Janod for making them pretty and happy too.

10 – the drama queen/king
all drama queens and kings should have their very own castle, where they can play out their diva-ness.

the can’t cook book

October 15, 2013

the can't cook cookbook
so, i would like to start off this blog post with the fact that i do actually think i can cook… that being said, i am not great at following directions. if a recipe has too many ingredients i inevitably leave out one. i like to say that it is because i am like my grandmother, she never measures anything and i think she makes up most of her recipes! anyway, that being said i seem to have quite a collection of recipe books and the latest addition to my library is jessica seinfeld’s new book, “the can’t cook book.” of all the recipe books i own the only one i use often is giada’s every day italian–which i love–but jessica’s new book might be it’s new replacement.

as a graphic designer and art director, i love  the design of the book. it is easy to read, but playful in it’s layout. jessica’s voice is adds personality to each recipe and i love the little personal notes she shares about her family. the photography is beautiful and each recipe actually looks achievable and delicious.

on a technology note, i love what she has done in her how-to section. not only does she walk you through some pretty basic cooking techniques–which mind you, are tricks worth noting–but she also has a mobile site where you can watch short video clips of her teaching you how to do each one.

i have only made one recipe so far–chicken with rice and peas–it was so good and easy to make (what mom doesn’t love a healthy and delicious one pot wonder). i admit that the picture below is from the cook book and not of my dish because although it tasted delicious it didn’t look as pretty as hers!

chicken with rice and peasbe sure to also check out jessica’s non profit organization, baby buggy, it is a wonderful cause to support!
